故事片《音乐之声》描写生性活泼、热爱自然、不安心当修女的姑娘玛丽亚。故事发生在第二次世界大战前的奥地利。实习修女玛丽亚因热爱大自然、常因欣喜于大自然的山温水软及鸟语花香而流连忘返并因此违背教规。修道院院长决定派她去一个退役海军上校家里当家庭教师。玛丽亚给孩子们带去音乐、爱心，获得七个孩子的喜爱。最后，上校也爱上了她并与她结婚。
